Some don't understand the 5 stars and I don't understand the 1 star reviews. Is the book written simplistic, yes it is but that's not the point, for those who reviewed it one star are missing the point. The book does a great job of explaining what would be considered the eastern perspective of personal development and excellence that is greatly lacking in western culture. Like is about experiences, being present in the moment and developing your potential through good habits and repetition. I think people are being critical of the level it was written are too in their EGO to the point that they can't see the value in the chapters. Are there more difficult books, yes, A new Earth by Ekhart Tolle is the best book for identification of the ego and mental thought process from a philosophical perspective but this book is to the point in developing mastery of something in a way that is not overly complex and convoluted.Product details

Chop Wood Carry Water How to Fall in Love with the Process of Becoming Great (Audible Audio Edition) Joshua Medcalf Books Reviews
Joshua has written an easy to read book with some very practical applications. I am a huge John Wooden fan, and his influence can be seen throughout everything Joshua writes. Wins and losses come and go, but the strategies Joshua lays out in this fable will lead to lasting success and a life lived on purpose. This is a good read for anyone striving for mastery in sports, education, leadership, business, or life in general. Live your life on purpose, and never get bored doing the little things that lead to greatness.
I liked the format of this book so much it may have convinced me to use it for my next book. Short, easily readable, powerful chapters that highlight rules by which we should all live.
Add in Josh's personality (as seen in his social media), and he is a sure follow (@joshuamedcalf).
I am not an active reader by any stretch of the imagination. This book was recommended to me by a friend so I thought I'd give it a shot. I couldn't stop reading it because the book is so relatable to any profession and any person. The stories and lessons taught through the book are great and is presented where you can put yourself in the book and really question what you do to make yourself better.
Very great read. I thought I knew what perspective was until I read this book. This book painted a big picture for me and showed me what's most important. Surrendering the outcome was tough for me but this book taugh me to change my thought process and to enjoy and love everything in between, (the process)I highly recommend this book.
The main takeaways from this book are, that everyone wanTs to be great at something and set glamorous goals, but very few are willing to do the work and dig in to learn the process of being great.
Additionally, the realization that “you build your own house”. EVERYTHING you do in your life is creating the circumstances you experience and have to live with every single day, so do everything you can to “build your house” the way you wAnt it.
When you buy the book you will get the full context of what I’m saying
Been a college basketball coach for 16 years and have read so many books and heard so many people talk on these subjects but Joshua Medcalf does an amazing job of using simple to understand and powerful analogies and ideas to help you toward success. Too many great thoughts and ideas to even mention here. A must read for anyone who wants success in their mission in life. You are missing out if you don't read this book.
This is a wonderful book that has much to teach anyone who wants to be exceptional. As you will learn, Greatness is not for the chosen few, but the few who choose. Choose to read this book, you will not regret it.
